meditations from a viewfinder

a sense of place

five (or sometimes three) pictures, arranged like this:
one picture at the centre, flanked by two pictures showing more or less opposing scenes nearby, the latter on their turn flanked by two other pictures taken farther away.

in this way, i purport to give a 'sense of place'.

as i see it, every place (or spot) wherever is also a borderless centre of a wider area that ultimately has no circumference.

to me, photography is extremely well suited to show the significance of places (the genius loci if you will) seen in this way.

these sets of pictures are in no way attempts at panoramas, and each composing picture can be viewed in its own right as well.

for monitor viewing each set is first shown as a whole, with images that are of necessity only marginally larger than tumbnails, followed by a presentation of the pictures one by one, from left to right, for maximum resolution (alas, small details will still get lost. at the end of the day, the true photographs are my inkjet prints).

een besef van plaats

vijf (of soms drie) foto's, alsvolgt geordend:
